What gives Donald Trump the right to appoint Supreme Court Justices? One word: corruption.
From attacks on families, human decency and the rule of law to conflicts of interest, ethics violations and the flagrant abuse of government offices for personal gain, the degradation and corruption of the American government by the president, his associates and many in his party has reached a new, profound low. And we need to call foul.
Join us this Wednesday, July 18 to “Confront Corruption and Demand Democracy” with a candlelight vigil at sundown, on the southeastern corner of Southern Blvd and S Flagler Dr, for a brief rally, and the first-ever moonlit march on Trump's most cherished asset (the Winter White House, Mar-a-Lago).
This is our chance to show Palm Beach County's people-power behind the fight for the very soul of our democracy. Not only are this administration’s officials trading on the power invested in our institutions for personal and financial gain, our own president is attacking the rule of law by launching a full-fledged propaganda campaign to discredit the Russia investigation, while making a mockery of the emoluments clause. And all this is happening as money in politics, gerrymandering and restrictive voting laws continue to undermine the people’s voice in our government.
Democracy is how we hold wrongdoers accountable and create a government that reflects our values of inclusivity, justice and decency. But if it remains corrupted, our elected officials won’t be held accountable for separating families, detaining children, attacking the rule of law, putting donors ahead of voters or attempting to shape congressional districts to manipulate outcomes.
This July 18th, we will gather for nationwide vigils to confront corruption and demand democracy — because if we don’t, who will?
