Due to recent events and popular demand, this protest is now a double feature (although I can't edit the title): Handmaids against Kavanaugh/Everyone against treason
The handmaids vigil will run 6:45-7:45 as planned, then the treason vigil will continue until 10pm. Depending on numbers, the protest may move across the road to the steps opposite the State House.
Vigils are a quiet form of protest, so no megaphones. Bring candles and songs!
Trump has nominated Judge Brett M. Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court to replace Justice Anthony M. Kennedy, who has announced his retirement. In 2017, when the government tried to ban an immigrant detainee from having an abortion, Kavanaugh tried to block that ruling and wrote a dissent against the decision to allow the abortion to proceed. It is widely expected that, if selected, Kavanaugh will support overturning Roe v. Wade and denying women the right to an abortion.
Handmaids will come together to reject this threat to women's reproductive autonomy.
